My pet wont eat it

It is not uncommon for a pet to decide they do not want to eat for a day or so. We tend to attribute it to their sudden ""dislike"" for a food, when, in reality, it could be for host of different reasons that they are unable to communicate to us. The biggest mistake we as pet parent's make is to panic thinking that they will go hungry and we try introducing some new food to them as an alternative. Believe it or not, this may be why they are not eating because they have learned the cause and effect of this behavioral manipulation. Below is an interesting article by holistic veterinarian, Dr. Karen Becker, that may help you to better understand and deal with this behavior. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Finicky Pets:

When pets become finicky, the best thing you can do as their pet parent is to instill a little ""tough love"" by NOT offering them an alternative when they refuse to eat. Not only are we giving in to their behavioral manipulation, but we are harming them and not helping them by further confusing their digestive systems. If you are also a human parent, you understand the importance of discipline and follow-through when trying to teach your child, right? The same principle applies here.

A pet has very species-specific digestive systems and you need to be consistent in their diet to achieve a healthy gut and digestive balance. If they refuse to eat, bring the food up and tell them, ""OK, we'll try again at next feeding time"". Repeat... and even if they go 2 or 3 days without eating, they will be fine. A pet WILL NOT allow themselves to be ""self-starved"". If they are hungry enough, they WILL eat whatever is put in front of them. Also, experts agree that fasting is actually very good for them in order to allow their gut to rest and ""reset"".

You, as their pet parent, need to know that you are choosing the best food and nutrition for them- Stay strong and follow through to get them eating again. Not only are you doing the best thing for them, but you are avoiding frustration and buying multiple types of food that are being wasted when they change their minds again. Please don't give up. I would encourage you to try this method and I think you will be surprised at the results. It is harder on us than it is on them to follow-through on this, but IT WORKS!
